Was that Livan Hernandez dressed as Santa and throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before the Nationals-Marlins game in Florida on Sunday?
No, apparently that was "Man-a-Claus", one of the Marlins Manatees -- MLB's first (and only?) all-male dance team -- celebrating a Christmas in July event on Sunday at Sun Life Stadium, where the Nationals suffered through yet another lost weekend in Miami against the Marlins. Four runs and a win for Strasmas on Friday, followed by 2-0 and 1-0 losses on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Just don't blame Rick Eckstein for the lack of timely hitting, ok?
Meanwhile, the Bee problem in the visitors bullpen at Sun Life Stadium deserves honorable mention. From the AP story on Saturday:
An area near the visitors’ bullpen became infested, with one entire section of seats and part of another roped off for Saturday night’s game against Washington.
A bee removal company called I’ll Bee There was dispatched to dispose of the insects.
Here's Drew Storen, quoted in the AP story:
On to Cincinnati and the House that Jim Bowden Built..."Fortunately, we didn’t see them. I’m obviously not a big fan of bees—brings back bad childhood memories. It would have been a bad distraction."
