Phillies 14, Nationals 7: There's a touchdown joke ready for the taking, but we'll leave it alone.
Phillies have outscored the Nats 45-22 in 5 games so far. This also appears to be a good spot for a football joke. Maybe something about McNabb?
Craig Stammen (1.1 IP, 53 pitches, 7H, 7ER, 1BB, 1HR) vs. Kyle Kendrick (1.2 IP, 52 pitches, 6H, 6ER, 3BB): One for the ages.
Stammen actually had us wishing Garrett Mock would show up on an express bus from Syracuse and take the ball in the second inning.
Bergmann, Burnett, Bruney, Clippard: had us longing for the halcyon days of Julian Tavarez.
Anonymous sources report that Brian Bruney is still wandering around the streets of Philadelphia at this hour searching for his lost strike zone (23 pitches - 8 strikes). Maybe Bruney should've shown up for the Yankees World Series ring ceremony on Tuesday, and stayed there?
Riggleman proves he isn't concerned about Jason Marquis by pinch-hitting him in the fifth inning with the game tied at 5 and a runner on 2nd.
Zim out for third straight game; when's that trip to the DL coming?
Bernadina, down. Maxwell, up. Someone needs to leave town to make room for today''s starter, Smokin' Scott Olsen: Jason Bergmann: Another untimely bomb, 15.00+ ERA = odd man out?

More importantly, who now takes Stammen's place in the rotation? Martin? Ballester? Some guy walking past the stadium on game day?
What a fiasco.

Good question: We'll take our chances with that guy walking past the stadium on game day. Oddly enough...As bad as Stammen was last night...(can't believe we're about to say this)... hopefully they give him at least one more start before sending him down. Even the Mock decision seemed to be knee-jerk. Would like to see these guys get a little more rope from Rizzo et al. The DC-to-Syracuse shuttle can only make so many trips in a week, you know?

Yes, Bergmann and Bruney have been pretty bad. But Clippard has been mostly good. I just hate to see Clip get overused.

What was the point of bringing up Bernadina? Seems like a total waste of gas money to have him come down from Syracuse. Didn't see the field once, just burned one of his options. And it's not like there was anyone great standing in his way...

Where is my man Tony Armas, Jr. when you need him?

Via Zuckerman, Bergman was DFA'd. I bet he clears waivers.
