Well, it's been quite a while since we've seen the Silver Elvis wig, huh? It made a surprising appearance in the wee hours Tuesday morning at Nationals Park after the Nationals declared victory in the Bryce Harper negotiations.
Adam Kilgore describes the scene as Stan Kasten slapped Mike Rizzo in the face with a whipped-cream pie, then placed the Silver Elvis wig on his head during Rizzo's victory speech:
"There is one more thing I do have to do when we celebrate victories here," Kasten interrupted. He summoned a whipped-cream pie stashed in the corner and smashed it in Rizzo's face, splattering whipped cream all over Rizzo and the walls. Someone else pulled out the silver Elvis wig Nationals players used as a totem after their own victories.
"Why not go overboard?" Kasten bellowed.

Why not? Sounds like the negotiations really did go down to the wire, just like with Strasburg:
"With a full minute to go, Mike and I both thought we were not going to have a deal done. It changed during the middle of that last minute. This was literally right at the end. It was just both sides coming together."
(Stan Kasten, via Nationals.com, 8/17/2010)"It was both sides compromising and knowing that we were so close. It would be fruitless to not get a deal done. Like I've always said, we have an organization that wanted the player and a player who wanted to be in the organization. Once the smoke cleared, we found common ground to get a deal done."

Nice work, Rizzo.
It seems like a while since we had seen Silver Elvis. Did it fall by the wayside during some of the losing?
Also, yesterday's was Elvis Death Day too.
